Beginner Driving Lessons in Burnley
Never sat behind the wheel? We start from the very beginning.
Everyone starts somewhere. In your first lesson you will learn how the car works, where everything is and how to move off safely, all on a quiet road away from traffic.
From there your lessons build step by step: steering and control, junctions, roundabouts, then busier roads as you are ready. There is no rush and no judgement, and you will never be pushed into something you are not ready for.
Before you start you will need a provisional driving licence. You can apply on GOV.UK, and we are happy to talk you through it.

What happens in your first lesson
Your first lesson is relaxed. We meet you, check your licence and eyesight, and walk through the controls before the engine even starts. Then you drive, on a quiet road with plenty of space.
- Cockpit drill: seat, mirrors, seatbelt, controls
- Moving off and stopping smoothly
- Basic steering and speed control
- Plenty of time for questions
Getting your provisional licence and sorting the paperwork
You must have a provisional licence before your first lesson. Apply on GOV.UK; it usually costs £34 online and arrives within a few days. You also need to be able to read a number plate from 20 metres. We will check this at your first lesson.
You can start learning at 17, or from 16 if you receive the enhanced rate of the mobility component of Personal Independence Payment (PIP).
How long until I am ready?
There is no minimum, and anyone who promises a pass in a fixed number of hours is guessing. The DVSA's average is around 45 hours of professional lessons plus private practice, and most beginners find regular lessons (and some practice between) shorten the journey considerably.
