What the test involves
The car theory test has two parts, taken on the same day. First, 50 multiple-choice questions, where you need 43 to pass. Second, a hazard perception test with 14 video clips, where you need 44 out of 75 to pass. You must pass both.
Revision that works
Little and often beats cramming. Use the official DVSA revision materials and apps, and practise hazard perception clips until spotting developing hazards becomes habit. Aim to score consistently above the pass mark in mock tests before you book.
Hazard perception tips
Click when you see a hazard begin to develop, not when it is already a problem. Do not click constantly: the system penalises patterns of rapid clicking.
Link it to your lessons
Your driving lessons reinforce what you are learning for the theory, so the two help each other. Ask your instructor about anything you are unsure of.
Where to take it
There is a theory test centre in Burnley as well as others nearby. You choose when booking on GOV.UK.
