Motorway Driving Lessons in Burnley

Build confidence on slip roads, lane discipline and high speeds.

Many drivers pass their test without ever driving on a motorway, and then find their first motorway journey daunting. Motorway lessons give you a safe, supported introduction to high-speed driving.

Burnley sits right on the M65, which runs west towards Blackburn and the M6 and east towards Nelson and Colne. That makes it a convenient place to practise slip roads, lane discipline and overtaking with an instructor beside you.

What you will learn

We build up gradually, starting with dual carriageways and moving to the motorway once you are ready.

  • Joining the motorway from a slip road
  • Lane discipline and keeping a safe distance
  • Overtaking safely and returning to the left
  • Dealing with roadworks, smart motorway signs and breakdowns
  • Leaving the motorway calmly

Who it is for

Motorway lessons suit newly qualified drivers, anyone who avoids motorways, and people who have a new job or commute that involves one. They also work well as a few extra lessons after you pass, and are a popular part of the DVSA's optional Pass Plus course.

Learner drivers and motorways

Learner drivers can only drive on a motorway with an approved driving instructor in a car with dual controls. Never practise on the motorway with a friend or family member if you are still a learner.
